Cardigan will hold it’s annual Walking Festival in association with Menter Aberteifi and the Cardigan Ramblers Group.

Cardigan and it’s surrounding area is truly a walker’s paradise. This year’s festival programme features a host of new walks that encompass the beautiful Teifi Estuary. The estuary of the River Teifi is at the centre of spectacular landscpaes and seacapes. The river valley is a Special Area of Conservation whilst the Cardigan Bay Special Area of Conservation lies seaward. The area is blessed with a wealth of historic attractions such as Cardigan Castle, birth of the National Eisteddfod and Cilgerran Castle.

There is a selection of walks which will appeal to everyone, ranging from the strenuous to the more relaxed family walks. So come along and explore beautiful West Wales.

The weekend starts on Friday evening with a talk and reception at the Guildhall before a ‘town walk’ will help to acquaint visitors (and local people!) with Cardigan’s rich history and architectural heritage.

Over the course of the weekend there will be walks of varying demand and challenge, from a 3-4 mile ’stroll’ up to 12-13 mile expeditions.
All walks will have guides, maps and support provided, so everything is guaranteed
(except the weather!).

Dolphin Discovery Weekend & Sponsored Walk

August 15, 2009toAugust 16, 2009

From New Quay to Cym Tydu, West Wales

Have a whale of a time whilst supporting the essential work of two leading whale and dolphin conservation charities – ORCA (www.orcaweb.org.uk) and Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre (www.cbmwc.org) – as we discover dolphins, porpoises, seals, seabirds and other amazing wildlife on the cliffs of idyllic West Wales!

This is so much more than just a sponsored walk! Instead, you will be thrilled and entertained along the way as we take in breathtaking scenery and look out for dolphins in one of the best places in Britain to see them from the shore!

On the walk there will be:

  • A team of guides positioned along the route to spot dolphins and porpoises, staying in radio contact with each other and local boats to maximise our chances of a sighting.
  • Activities and fascinating facts along the route for all of the family.
  • Discovery hotspots where you can find out more about marine wildlife and the sea.
  • An optional taxi service enabling you to choose a long or short walk before being returned to your starting point.

And there’s so much more to do throughout the weekend!

  • Visit the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre (CBMWC)
  • Take a boat trip to spot dolphins with Dolphin Survey Boat trips (booked through CBMWC)
  • Join us on our Saturday evening social (exact activity weather dependent)
  • Meet and chat with whale and dolphin experts from ORCA and CBMWC throughout the weekend.
  • Take in picturesque New Quay and the surrounding countryside and stunning coastline of Cardigan Bay.

Please respond as soon as possible so that we can gauge the number of participants in order to manage the event effectively for all. Having received your contact details we will send your sponsorship forms if you have not already received them.
